Call for artists to create public artwork for Wendouree West

The City of Ballarat is seeking ideas from artists to create new public artwork to feature at the re-developed Wendouree West Recreation Reserve.

The artwork, which is sought to be inspired by the local history of Wendouree West, will feature at the Wendouree West Recreation Reserve which is currently undergoing a re-development to include a new playground, community hub, CCTV and lighting, signage, pathway and tree works.

The public art project is part of the Wendouree West Recreation Reserve Masterplan aimed at further developing facilities in the area, and increasing the number of reserve users.

The artwork will be located within close proximity to new playground facilities, and will promote positive stories about Wendouree West to locals and the wider community.

The City of Ballarat has been successful in receiving funding from the Department of Justice and Regulation for this project.

The Wendouree Neighbourhood Centre and local historians will also work closely with artists and the City of Ballarat on the project.

Interested artists will need to have experience in public art practice and working with community heritage themes.

For more information on the application process email City of Ballarat Public Art Co-Ordinator Kate Gerritsen at

Please review the artist brief before applying.

Applications close Thursday 27 September 2017.
